Paintball Gun Barrels
The aftermarket Paintball Gun Barrel is the most popular upgrade for serious speedballers.
While the stock Paintball Gun Barrel is fine for beginners, extreme Paintball players need a Barrel that is more accurate. Many believe that longer barrels are more accurate. However, a barrel longer than 14 inches will actually hurt your Paintball Gun's performance.

A Paintball has more time to straighten out it's trajectory the longer it travels down a barrel. A longer barrel allows the paintballs to travel more consistently from one shot to the next. However, a longer barrel also requires more air to shoot the Paintball. This makes your gun less efficient. In addition to needing more air to shoot the ball, a barrel that is longer than 14 inches will actually be so long that a paintball will begin to decelerate before leaving the barrel. This will cause the ball to travel even shorter distances than having a shorter barrel. I personally play with an 8, 10 or 12 inch barrel, depending on the gun.
Paintball Barrels also come in different size diameters. While paintballs are supposedly .68 inches in diameter, different brands of paintballs are different sizes. The key to accuracy not only depends on the length of a barrel but on making sure your paintball fits in the Paintball Gun's Barrel. Ideally, a paintball should be completely round. It should not slide down the barrel with the weight of gravity alone. However, if you blow on the end of the gun you should be able to force the paintball through. A paintball that rolls down a barrel is too small for that barrel and a ball that requires more than a puff of air from your lungs is too large. Some barrels come in kits with multiple attachments to properly match your barrel to any size paintball.
The other thing to consider when buying an aftermarket Paintball Gun Barrel is the material it is made from. Paintball Gun Barrels come in many different types of materials including steel, aluminum and carbon fiber. The actual material doesn't really affect accuracy, However, it will affect the weight of your Paintball Gun. Lighter barrels typically cost more.
